How is Lord Byron tied into a fraternity while writting the play of Manfred?

I really don't know if he was part of a specific fraternal group. I know he was a staunch advocate of the “liberty, equality, and fraternity” but I can't see any evidence of a brotherhood. That doesn't mean it didn't happen though, you might have to dig a little more.
