What is the effect of Amy’s lines here?

'I don't think it's fair for some girls to have plenty of pretty things, and other girls nothing at all', added little Amy, with an injured sniff.

In essence, Amy is feeling sorry for herself. In my opinion, the effect somewhat backfires and makes her seem a bit spoiled.
