Like Water for Chocolate

On page 232, we find out that Rosaura died a year before and that Esperanza and Alex's wedding has been delayed in honor of her memory. Why does the author relate this information so starkly and suddenly?

The reader isn't aware of the details of the wedding because we're meant to believe that Pedro and Tita are finally tying the knot. As it stands, their story is far from over.
