What lessons did Pi learn that helped him to survive?

Growing up in a zoo prepared Pi for being stranded on a raft with wild animals. He understood, for example, the hierarchy of animals and what it takes to be the alpha-male. Pi also had a lot of thought and time invested in the idea of God and faith.
