A few moments later, Mr. Peck and Deputy Haynes arrive. To Mr. Turner’s horror, Mr. Peck nervously and haltingly explains that there was an issue with the stipulations of the AAA and parts of the cotton will have to be immediately plowed up. Moe is stunned and begs his father not to do it. Mr. Turner hits his son and Moe drops to the ground. Mr. Turner feels humiliated and beaten so he takes his frustrations out on his son.
