Yes, his reasoning involves nothing more than what he believes is the best thing for his family. He wants to help, and although he's young, this is the only way he knows of to help them. Should he have run off without talking to his parents directly? As a mother, I'm going to say no, but I'm not in that situation and hopefully never will be. Who's to judge?
