Cassie is quite stubborn, and even though she has a strong sense of right and wrong, she is still a child and sometimes cannot resist her baser urges; the scene where she covets and subsequently wins Son-Boy’s marble even though her father expressly forbid it is genuinely charming in its realistic depiction of childhood whims and desires.
