Note, the plebeians were considered the lower of the two classes in Rome. They were free, could own their own homes, and could own slaves. The Plebs did not socialize with Patricians and the two social classes did not often inter-marry. Plebs had no direct representation in the consul, but because of their numbers, they had the power to influence decisions. Their fickleness is easily seen in who they gave their support to, as their support swayed back and forth between who they believed was giving them what they wanted.
