How does Shakespeare use humor in the opening scene?

Shakespeare's play, Julius Caesar, opens with the tribunes chastising the plebeians for their fickleness. They refer to the masses as "You blocks, you stones, you worse than senseless things!"(1.1.34). This would have been considered humorous.
