What Brutus does not want is the rule of just one person, the very reason why he helped assassinate Caesar in the first place. Ultimately, Rome is ruled by a triumvirate, three men contributing to the rule with their ideas hopefully brought to a consensus.

Brutus believed that his actions would make him a hero. Thus, he was certain that ruling Rome would be a somewhat simple transition. Unfortunately, he counted on Antony to back him up..... Antony did not back him up.
