Why does Johnny sneak into the Lytes yard?

Even after being released from the charge of stealing the cup from Lyte, Johnny still needs money to live.  He feels that he would be safe trying to sell the cup and thinks Lyte would provide the best source of this income.  However, when he approaches Lyte, he discovers that Lyte still wants to rob him and he rushes away when Lyte threatens to have him arrested.
