-Johnny is arrogant and immature working as a silversmith. Johnny loses his hand over a senseless prank, feels lost and defeated.

Johnny meets Rab at a newspaper. Becomes a spy for the rebellion, he now has purpose.

The war begins between the colonists and the British. Rab dies in battle. Johnny is more mature.

Doctor offers to fix Johnny's hand. Johnny has defined himself. He is more self- aware.
