why does jane continously call Mr Rochester sir?

from reading the novel i have noticed that jane has always been calling mr rochester 'sir' , even after they had gotten married. Why is this?

Jane calls Rochester, “Sir”, as a sign of respect. She continues to show him this respect even after their marriage.
