There is a sense of the sinister in this red room. The read curtain represents hell and entrapment as Jane feels trapped and feels panic.

The colour "red" connotes to danger and perhaps even the fire that equally destroys but renews their relationship at the end of the novel. This may also link to the red room, which is symbolic for imprisonment so the colour of the curtains may suggest that Rochester would becomes one of the obstacles that Jane has to conquer in order to achieve independence and social stability.

Red may seem to be a threatening colour but it may also connote to comfort, warmth and love which Jane will ultimately find in her relationship with Rochester.
