Metaphor- The narrator moves from being covered in white paint to being encased in a white, rigid chair. He is stared at and examined at the hospital like an object. In addition, he is wearing new clothes -- strange white overalls. Certainly the white is a strong metaphor of the narrator's constant struggle to be accepted into white society.
