Invisible Man

Invisible Man: Ellison likes to give his characters names that tell the reader something about the personality of the character. What do you think the name trueblood suggest about the character?

Jim's story is that during a sexual dream, he somehow ended up pushing himself onto his teenage daughter sleeping next to him. Impregnating his wife, who comes close to killing him for the crime against their daughter, and his own daughter. The name "trueblood" would reflect his incestuous act.
