hat is ironic about the narrator's discovery of a Bible in his room at Men's House?

In accordance with the allusion to the Bible, the only familiar object the narrator finds in his new room is the Bible. It makes him feel homesick. I suppose finding this piece of home in New York is ironic. He can't get away from his origins.
