Once a medical student, Griffin decided to change his path and study physics. After experimenting with pigments, he made an important discovery, in which animal tissue could be made transparent. Griffin was very secretive about his discovery, but later ran out of money to continue his studies. He had to steal from is father in order to continue his work, and eventually was successful in his attempt to achieve invisibility.
