The qualities McCandless possessed that reflect America include independence, a sense of adventure, and the dream that we can accomplish anything.... that we are in charge of our own destiny. In terms of heroism, we might look to Chris' courage and bravery, the courage it took to strike out alone, and yet, we might also see this same courage as pride.... a fatal flaw, which makes Chris a tragic hero.

As to the last part of your question, it calls for your opinion.
