What does "plastic people" in chapter five mean? What are two things McCandless considered plastic?

I think that "plastic people" refers to the people he was working with in Bullhead. Chris felt a disconnect with anybody that bought into mainstream life. He felt that they “filtered his experience”. He thought that they were judging him, holding him to the one dimensional materialistic world that he loathed so much.
