Chris's ideals were defined in his own mind. It was the idea of communing with nature rather than the communing itself that fascinated Chris. I don't think he particularly enjoyed himself in Alaska, Chris was a people person. Chris was a romantic who clinged to ideas rather than understanding the reality of the situation.
