Into the Wild

How could this novel be similarly compared to 1984 by George Orwell?

what are a few similarities between the two? Including maybe society?

I suppose that like Winston Smith, Christopher McCandless tries to resist conforming to society and the ideals imposed on him. Chris seeks to find true reality from the consumer economy that most of us take for granted. Similarly Winston tries to seek truth or reality from the autocratic society imposed on him.
