what is a modernist?

Modernism or modernists in literature represent a group of authors who worked and wrote in direct contrast to tradtion. This was a fairly shocking thing when it began shortly after the end of WWII........ and it was meant to be just that. People began fighting against the traditional values and mores imposed upon them by society and embraced experimentation and individualism.
