Why is father Loboutilier so insistent that Saul go with Fred Kelly?

Father Leboutilier knew that Fred Kelly was Saul's ticket out of the residential school and on to bigger and better things. Fred Kelly not only offered higher level coaching but a family and sense of belonging as well. Saul could connect with his people again and play hockey. Saul will no longer have to suffer the indignities of St. Jerome's Indian Residential School.
