Saul's great-grandfather, a shaman named Shabogeesick or Slanting Sky, introduced the horse to the Ojibway. He found the horse from afar and brought it to his people. Shabogeesick taught the clan how to use the horse but also warned that its presence signaled that a great change would come that would “scorch” all their lives.
