In Chapter Seven, Saul hears his mother arguing with his grandmother. Saul’s mother used to be a student at Christian missionary school, and his grandmother doesn't approve of his mother’s using English or her belief in the religious ideas that she was taught at the school. We see the impact of the schools in the relationship between mother and daughter. The chapter's climax connects to Benjamin's death.
