Looking back at both chapters, what was the purpose of Saul’s vision of his family in chapter 48? - Why did he “need” that vision?

Saul "needed" the memory of his family in order to reconnect to his own personal heritage. At this point in the narration, the author stresses the way that strength is better derived from unity and emotional engagement, rather than from anger and solitude.
