Indian horse

This is perhaps the toughest part of the book for the reader to process. Saul and his teammates have just won another game against a white team. The burly men in the cafe want to teach "Indians a lesson" and remind them of their low stature in society. The ritual beating and urinating on these boys is inflicted on the whole team except Saul. Saul gets a "pass" because of his youth and his incredible skill as a hockey player. I don't think Virgil and the others had a choice: they had to go through with it. These are still boys and the assailants are grown men. It is even mentioned that the police drive by the beating indifferent to these innocent boys being humiliated in the worst way.
