Just by getting to know about Saul and his life, the reader is let into a world that debunks stereotypes. Throughout the narrative we find that there is no such thing as the "savage" Indian, the "noble" Indian, or the "stoic" Indian. These are labels put on aboriginal populations by white people. Aboriginal peoples have their own unique traits that do not conform to the white lens. Above all Indigenous peoples are human beings like all people. Saul wants to belong, he wants to love and be loved, he wants to know who he is.
