Father Leboutilier is trying to convince Father Quinney to let Saul go to live with Fred Kelly. Father Leboutilier wants to give Saul a chance at hockey and a chance to get out of the school. The quote is important because it is filled with contradictions about Father Leboutilier that we will learn about later. It also is the beginnings of Saul's journey into hockey and his post-residential school future.
