Much of chapter 20 illustrates Saul's discovery of and love of hockey. Hockey becomes Saul's refuge and reason to live. This is juxtaposed with general life in the school. Life for kids at St. Jerome's is Hell. Children are routinely abused in the most terrible ways. Unfortunately, hockey is only a refuge for some. The vast majority of children at St. Jerome’s live in constant misery.
