Saul's team never calls him by name, nor do they directly call him racist name. instead they refer to him simply as "thirteen". What does this say about identity and being part of a group?

Saul finds the Marlies extremely talented but he can’t change the bigotry he’s surrounded by. His teammates are cold and distant, and the media characterizes his play along racist, stereotypical lines. Saul is only a means to further their own careers: to them he is merely number thirteen.
