I can give you a few:The is a lot of pesonification using nature. Wagamese really wants to give the effect of nature as an entity or even a character in the novel that all living things are bound to hence the personification.

Personification- Time's relentless prowl forward

personification/ aliteration- barren land grips the world with fierce fingers.

simile- the pellets were like comets, like the slap of a hand
