After Aunt Nancy's death, it was determined that Harriet/Linda needed to be sent north. Fanny, another escaped slave was in hid(James) was murdered trying to escape, so they decided only she (Fanny) could leave..... the Captain allowed them both on board, thus, they were both able to escape north.
