Why did Jacobs dwell so much on sexual relations- chapters 9,10 and throughout the book?

There were many sexual relations between white masters and black slave girls. Most of these relationships involved rape. This put added trauma among slaves. This also could produce mixed offspring that were rejected by both blacks and whites.
