Minerva has both external and internal conflicts. Most of these conflicts have to do with the revolution and the dictator Trujillo. Minerva's husband is an imprisoned revolutionary so she must be careful. Minerva rejects Trujillo's advances at her which puts her in further conflict with the powerful dictator. Like her other sisters, Minerva must decide how far to push the revolution at the expense of her family's safety as well as her own.
