First of all the sister's truly begin to discover boys; then the boys begin to divide the sisters...... where the girls used to spend time with each other (at home and socially), in Chapter 5 we see them begin to value other people's company more than their familes (yes, the boys).

Minvera takes up with a man names Lio, he is a communist, her family doesn't like it. Thus, things change because we now have secrets.

Dede falls in love with Jaimito, and they gert engaged. The couple allows Miverva to see Lio with them, but eventually Lio is forced to go into exile. The chapter ends with Dede burning the letter he has written to her sister asking that she leave with him. She never gives her sister the chance to make that decision for herself.
