In the mood for Love (2000)

7. In the Mood for Love features songs very prominently from beginning to end, and the images often appear to follow the cues and pacing of the music. How does the film integrate the soundtrack, especially the songs of Nat King Cole, and the visual images?

In the Mood for Love (2000) uses the soundtrack as part of the texture of the movie. Every song is imbeded within the cinematography and character development. The title track "Hua Yang De Nian Hua" is a song by famous singer Zhou Xuan from the Solitary Island period. The 1946 song is a paean (praise/triumph) to a happy past and an oblique metaphor for the darkness of Japanese-occupied Shanghai. These songs personify the mood and scene. Bryan Ferry's sultry -"I'm in the Mood for Love" song is where the film title was taken from.
