What do the last chapters emphasize?

The final third of the novel is set directly in the city of Chicago with different characters taking the Jesus vow and being saved from suicide, robberies, and a host of other conflicts.

In the closing chapter, Rev. Maxwell has several visions that hint at the future fates of the many characters in the novel.
