In Dreams Begin Responsibilities

Mother talks about the novel she is reading and father makes judgments on the characters. Father is more assertive and considers himself an authority figure while mother seems submissive and accepting of father's judgment without debate or question. This dynamic, authority/ follower, seems to be how their relationship is developing.
