The Taliban hold a specific interpretation of the Islamic holy texts that exclude girls and women from sectors of life that are considered a human right in the West. Boys were given an education but one that was rooted in Islam and Taliban ideology. The Taliban rule is a theocracy meaning that their interpretation of religious texts dictate laws and societal norms.
