What qualities does Cisneros think are necessary for success in the transition from childhood to adolescence?

Ah, Esperanza sees little things as a mark of entering adolescence, which is to her womanhood. It's high-heeled shoes and dancing, garnering attention, being watched; it's the attainment of hips and swinging walks, and unfortunately finding out that these things don't always work the way you want them to....... Esperanza's altercation with the Oriental Man at the photoshop.

I think certainly a home environment and community that is supportive. Also a sense of drive and realistic goals. A sense of pride in ethnicity and how one fits into America.
