Does Esmeralda's youth affect her telling of the story and her reliability as a narrator

I think her youth is simply part of her story. Esperanza has vision, even when she is eleven years old. She does not want to grow up impoverished mothering six children and an abusive husband: she wants more out of life. This sets Esperanza up as a fairly reliable narrator even in her youth. The reader watches as Esperanza grows and changes but never loses her original vision.
