Esperanza is really upset about Sally being so promiscuous, especially in the garden where they used to play on. When Sally tells Esperanza to go away (Sally is with a boy) Esperanza is upset. Part of her innocence is destroyed. She hides under a tree at the other end of the garden and tries to wish herself to death.
