Henry Wadsworth Longfellow: Poems

“The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls”

Darkness settles on roofs and walls, But the sea, the sea in the darkness calls; The little waves, with their soft, white hands, Efface the footprints in the sands, And the tide rises, the tide falls.

What does stanza 2 tell you about the passage of time (what time of day is it?)

It seems to be darkness or night time. Time constantly changes: the cycle of night and day.
