What is the meaning of the title of Chapter 2?

For the story Hard Times. Murdering The Innocents is the titile for chapter two but i don't get why. Help please

Chapter Two begins with the introduction of Thomas Gradgrind, "a man of realities facts and calculations." Gradgrind does not nurture education rather than forces it upon students. He metaphorically kills the children by destroying their innocence and imaginations.
