Hard Times

The Second Book of Hard Times?

I am in the second book of Hard Times, and I am having a hard time understanding what exactly is going on. Mostly because it drives me crazy how Stephen Blackpool talks, so I don't know why he's in trouble, or if he even is.. haha. Could anyone help me out?

Stephen's in trouble because he's being framed for a bank robbery. Tom, Louisa's brother has been stealing, borrowing, or taking money wherever he can get it. His sister turns the other way incapable of believing that he could do such things; everyone else protects her from that knowledge which doesn't help either.
