When the ghost commands Marcellus and Horatio to "swear" to secrecy, where does his voice come from? Why is this disturbing given Renaissance stage conventions? Act 1. iv.

Are you sure this question pertains to Scene IV?

The ghost calls out from under the stage. I'll have to look further for the answer to the second part of your question.
