Claudius does what a king in danger might usually do: he gets rid of Hamlet. Claudius however does not kill him . We see Claudius's own emotional conflicts come out. He truly loves Gertrude to kill her son. He is also wary of how he would look the general public as well as the court should he have Hamlet killed.
