Why did Swift choose this australian part like Tasmania as a setting for Lilliput

I'm not totally sure but Gulliver's ship was bound for the East Indies when it was caught in 'a violent storm to the northwest of Van Diemen's Land' (Tasmania). That would indicate Australia.
